New Features - version by version
updated July 15, 2004
Follow this link to see the new features in version
5.30.

Here
is a partial list of the new features in
Donor Manager version 5.24
- Enhanced
readability of reports by adding alternating color bars. These can
be turned on or off from the /Tools /Report & Envelope options tab
- Greater stability
in the link between the Donor Manager and Word when printing bulk
envelopes
- In the past, the
program made a backup of all of the data each time you exited the
program. Now, the program makes an automatic backup only if you
have changed some data. This makes the program quit much more
quickly if you have just gone in to "look up" some data or run some
reports.
- The WBT RTF gift
report routine has been enhanced for greater reliability.
- A new "Find" box
has been placed on the Partner Details screen where the "Find button"
used to be. This makes it easier to move from partner to partner.
- a number of minor
cosmetic changes to reports to enhance usability
- the usual
collection of minor bug fixes and enhancements

Here is a partial list of the new
features in Donor Manager version 5.23
-
Support for a
“generic” version of the program. You can now specify the terminology
that the program uses to refer to partners, churches, denominations, etc.
This is useful for users who are not working for a missionary
organization, or for those in creative access areas.
-
Support for
automatic gift processing for WBT / SIL / JAARS RTF giving statements
-
Search for
duplicate partner records, and optionally delete the duplicate records
-
Mark multiple
records for deletion at one time
-
Enhancements to
the filtering options used with reports / labels /
envelopes / mail merge
-
Several new
filters have been added for reports / labels / envelopes / etc.: LYBUNTY /
SYBUNTY / gave in the past 12 months / didn’t give in the past 12
months. Very useful when segmenting your mailings
-
A new filter to
list those who do not have an email address
-
Longer file
names for photos
-
Additional
statistical information – how many partners are in each category and are
on each of your user specified lists
-
The ability to
create a new envelope.doc template file if the original file isn’t working
properly
-
Significantly
enhanced “import names and addresses from Excel” tools
-
A new feature to
count the number of envelopes / labels before actually running the routine
(useful to know “how many stamps / envelopes do I need to buy”)
-
You can now do
bulk e-mails in batches. If your ISP limits the number of e-mails that
you can send at one time (a common anti-spam technique), this feature
allows you to break your e-mail list up into multiple groups
-
On the churches
tab, the program now lists the total support pledged by people in that
particular church / group
-
You can now put
partner info on the Windows clipboard (for pasting into another program)
-
Enhanced Finding
-
A new hotkey
“Control-F” can be used anywhere in the program to quickly take you to the
“Find a partner” routine
-
Enhanced
finding: enter letters and the program searches by name, enter numbers
and the program searches by Donor ID number
-
A new routine is
added to the e-mail menu that creates an Excel format file designed just
for use as a source file for doing personalize e-mail merges in Word. It
works great for sending personalized e-mails using Word.
-
Many
minor bug fixes and cosmetic enhancements

Version 5.22 includes the following new features:
- improved tools to help you import your data from
Outlook and Excel. The "Import from Excel" tool has
had a major upgrade and is much more flexible.
- an additional change in the way the program tries to
match existing donors when importing gift information that will
(hopefully) enhance the accuracy of the matches.
- this version includes a redesigned main menu.
Especially, check out the new "Quick Find" on the home page.
- This version also includes the ability to change the
names of the regions to make the program more generic and flexible.
- The "Make an Excel file in the My
Documents Folder on exit" routine has been enhanced to work more smoothly
with the Word mail merge wizard.
- For CCCU staff: added the capability to filter on CCCU donors in the
Donor Master File listing and in all report / label / etc. filtering
routines.
- fixed a bug in the single envelope printing routine
that often left a blank line in the address
- this release includes changes in the automatic gift
processing routine. When checkmark in "Match by City"
is removed, it shows all names, including those with Donor ID numbers
(which the previous versions hid). I have also added a "find by
last name" function to the gift processing routine.
- Changes to the "search by last name"
in the Partner Browser screen to significantly speed up the screen painting.
- changed the layout of the monthly giving report
to accommodate larger giving amounts and international ministries.
- Added support for Avery Label 5160 to support a user
request.
- Added support for importing contributions from
KMAinteractive gift reports.
- Several minor cosmetic changes, enhancements, and bug
fixes.

Version 5.21 includes the following new features:
- you can now filter when sending bulk emails
- improved editing of giving history in the donor grid
- As an option, the program makes a copy of your Donor
Manager data in Excel
format and puts it in the "My Documents" folder on exit (for
simpler use of the DM data in Word, etc.). Very nice.
- There are now larger fields for larger support amounts (for
international staff who track donations in currencies other than US$)
- Longer city / country fields (for non USA addresses)
- For non-WGM staff, you can turn off the features that
are specific to World Gospel Mission.
- The ability to apply a "touch" to multiple
records (based on filtering)
- The first version of a generic "import from
Excel" tool. (On the pull down menus /Tools /Import).
Feedback is invited.
- A re-written manual gift entry posting routine (to
help make the routine more solid)
- Moved the "Backup on Exit Options" from the
Backup page to the "Personalize" page.
- plus a number of other small fixes (mostly cosmetic)
Note: most of these changes have come
from suggestions from users. Your feedback, ideas, and bug reports
are sincerely appreciated.

The following new features were introduced in version 5.20 (released on June 5, 2003)
- You can import names from Outlook into the Donor Master file.
Click here for tips on how to do
this.
- The automatic contribution processing has been
completely to handle files created by the WGM Snapshot Webview and
files created by the CCCU Missionary Department.
- Changed and simplified the menu structure
- Added a section to the menu titled "Online
tools" to give quick access to program updates and the Snapshot
Webview.
- Combined several routines under a section titled
"Relationships": prospects, special days, reminders, and a
summery of support raised vs. support goals.
- A new supporters report that lists your supporters
and shows your total pledged support. For CCCU staff, it adjusts
for the 10%
- Also, you can now access the Donor Manager website at
www.donormanager.com.
- A new report to allow you to print the support summary
information.
- A new report that lists supporters whose
pledge is ending in the next ? number of months (with the user being
able to specify the number of months).
- This release adds the ability to add a "NOT"
filter to reports, labels, envelopes, exports, etc. In other
words, you can now say "print labels for all who are not donors,
or who are not supporters, etc."
Note: Versions 5.17 - 5.19 were not released publicly.

Version 5.16 was released on May 14,
2003. The download is a self-installing, self-upgrading download of
about 315kb.
- Improved bulk e-mailing for AOL users
- Optionally makes quick backups automatically on exit
in 2 locations: the quikback folder and the "My
Documents" folder. Very nice!
- Enhanced annual giving totals summary, including
annual giving totals for churches and individuals
- A new routine to show you pledged support vs. your
support goal.
- In the actual vs. goal support, there is special
provision for Christian Union missionaries. Support calculations
are made and take into account the 10% charge made by
Circleville. CCCU missionaries can mark donors as CCCU
donors (and the program calculates the 10% for you)
Photos
- When linking to a photo, the program now copies the
photo into the donor5\photos folder if it isn't there already
- When looking at a photo, double clicking the photo
zooms the picture
- When a donor record does not have a photo, the notes
field expands automatically to give more room for notes
Reports
Several new reports to analyze donor giving histories,
including:
- a trailing 12 months giving history
- a late donors report (the user can define what
constitutes a "late" donor)
- a summary of the past 6 years giving
Enhancements
- several cosmetic changes to various reports to
improve readability
- the full backup routine will not allow you to
accidentally backup to the "live" donor manager folder
Version 5.15 was released on April 3,
2003.
New features in 5.15 include:
- You can send bulk e-mails to the e-mail
addresses in the donor database, with the addresses being put into the
bcc: address slot.
- Optionally, you can place all of the
e-mail addresses onto the Windows Clipboard, ready to paste into the
e-mail program of your choice.
- Minor formatting changes to several
reports.
- The program will go online and check to
see if a new version of the program has been released.
New Features planned:
- enhanced personalized bulk email sending
- video tutorials and help lessons to help
you get up to speed quickly
- the ability to import data files from
WGM's new Blackbaud based accounting system.

Versions 5.12 and 5.13 were not released
publicly.
New features in 5.14 include:
- significantly enhanced filtering options
when printing mailing labels, reports, envelopes, exports,
etc. (suggested by Bill and Betsy Tarr)
- more filtering options when browsing
through the donor master file. In previous versions, you had
really only one filter option: show all names, or show
supporters only. Now, there are 12 additional filtering options
available (including: show churches only, donors only, supporters
only, plus the 10 user definable lists)
- When printing envelopes, you now have the
ability to create an envelope batch that contains just some of the
names. You can specify a beginning and ending name or zip code
(depending on the sort order of the envelopes). This makes it
much easier to finish a partial print job. (suggested by
Bill and Melody Dearmon)
