Crash when importing from Excel

One of the more common questions that I am asked concerns Excel crashing the Donor Manager when trying to do an import of some kind.
The problem comes from the Donor Manager not recognizing the newer Excel file formats.
And, fortunately, the solution is fairly easy.
Simply open your file in Excel (or OpenOffice Calc or whatever you use) and then re-save the file (perhaps under a slightly different file name) as an Excel 5.0 / 95 file.
In Excel 2010, the "Save As ..." dialog box would look like this:
